This is the first textbook in the Croatian language that deals in an engaging, clear, and structured way with starting a business venture and the success of the company’s business through franchising. This way of doing business is becoming more popular and significant because it partially reduces the risk of failure and allows a person to fulfill the desire to start an entrepreneurial venture while combining personal knowledge and skills with a well-established and developed business model. However, in the Republic of Croatia, franchising is still not sufficiently developed, as evidenced by the minimal amount of literature on this topic in the Croatian language. As the first in Croatia, the textbook provides, through a theoretical framework and thoughtfully chosen practical examples, access to the information needed to understand this way of doing business and specific technical advice for the most successful business. Although the textbook, especially in terms of content, is intended for students, it can certainly serve as educational and informative material for anyone considering starting an entrepreneurial venture or wants to significantly contribute to the growth and development of their own company.

Franchise and franchising business model is a topic to which, especially in the Republic of Croatia, insufficient attention is still paid. Considering all the advantages that entering into a franchise business has in relation to starting a business, it is insufficient to think about the factors that influence the decision to buy or sell a franchise and the impact of the business ecosystem on the expansion of the franchise. Participants in the regulatory process in the Republic of Croatia are not sufficiently aware of the advantages of this way of doing business. Therefore the legislation is changing very slowly. Experiences in franchising in Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia and Macedonia certainly contribute to a better understanding and the possibilities of changes in the business ecosystem that would contribute to the expansion of this form of business.
